Tell us a little about your family and ministry background... I was born in Illinois but moved to San Diego at age 10 and actually consider both places my home. I’m an only child and have one son, Michael, who is a university professor in the Chicago area. I taught Sunday School for 18 years for ages 2 up through age 10. I played the piano for church for over 36 years, 4 of which were at Bonita Valley – I played the piano because I can’t sing! I led a youth group for several years and have been one of BVCC’s greeters for 10 years. I loved playing the piano for services because that was how I best expressed my worship. What do like most about working at Bonita Valley? Working for BVCC is a blessing in every way. When I retired from State government, I was thrilled to be asked to work here, using many of the managerial skills I had used as a manager in public service. I’m applying my skills and abilities to help all the Pastors in strategic thinking, training/coaching, and in implementing organizational improvements. I love helping people excel and learn to use their abilities to serve the Pastors, the people of this congregation, and ultimately the Lord. God is good. Other than the Bible, what are your favorite books or authors? I really like Max Lucado and Ken Blanchard, and those who can express simple truths in stories that are easy for people to remember. What is your favorite movie? I love musicals such as The Music Man, Oklahoma, Sound of Music, etc. What music do you enjoy most? I absolutely love Southern Gospel Music, especially southern gospel quartets and all of the Bill Gaither Homecoming music. My favorite group is the Gaither Vocal Band, but I have enjoyed quartet music for 40 plus years. What do you enjoy doing most on your day off? Enjoy my home, meeting with friends, and traveling. I love being semi-retired as it affords me more time to travel! |
